Shadows Between Us
Some love isn’t safe. Some hearts shouldn’t be touched. Some nights… change everything.
Intro
It was supposed to be a simple night.
A drink. A friend. Nothing more.
But when Isla Hayes locked eyes with Damian Voss, she realized danger could be irresistible.
He was everything she shouldn’t want—dark, controlling, intoxicating—but she couldn’t look away.
Characters
Isla Hayes – Smart, independent, careful. She’s built walls to protect herself from people like Damian… but sometimes walls aren’t enough.
Damian Voss – Magnetic, dangerous, and unreadable. He thrives in control and shadows, but when he chooses someone, he doesn’t let go.
The bar was nearly empty when she saw him.
Damian Voss. She remembered the first time she’d met him—stormy eyes, a crooked smile, and a warning in his voice she had ignored.
Tonight, the warning was louder than ever.
He didn’t smile this time. Not really. Just watched. Studied. And in a way, that was worse.
Isla gripped her glass tighter. She told herself she would leave.
But when he finally approached, slow, deliberate, like he owned the space, she froze.
“Isla.” His voice was a low rumble, smooth and dangerous.
“What do you want?” she asked, trying to sound casual.
He leaned closer, close enough that she could feel the heat from him. Too close.
“I want what I can’t have,” he said.
Her stomach knotted.
“And that’s me?”
He didn’t answer. Just let his hand brush hers—a fleeting, dangerous touch—and walked away.
She wanted to run.
She wanted to scream.
But she stayed, heart hammering, waiting for the pull she knew would come back.
And she knew it would.
Across the dimly lit street, Damian’s arm rested on someone else. The woman laughed softly, leaning into him. Isla felt her stomach knot. Her instincts screamed at her to leave. But she couldn’t.
Then his eyes found hers. Sharp. Claiming. Dangerous. Every warning she had ever ignored rushed back with a pounding force.
A slow smirk tugged at his lips as he whispered, just loud enough for her to hear,
“She’s not even close to you.”
Her chest tightened. Her hands shook. Anger, desire, and disbelief all collided at once.
How dare he… and yet, she couldn’t look away.
For a heartbeat, the world narrowed to them—him, her, and the chaos he brought.
